What is the ruling on photography and images, and is it obligatory, after repentance, to keep pictures of the wife that only show women, or to tear and burn them?

The legal texts have indicated the prohibition of photography and have threatened photographers with severe torment. Among these are the hadiths that mention that photographers will be among those most severely punished on the Day of Judgment, and that whoever takes a picture will be commanded to breathe life into it on the Day of Judgment. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, also commanded the destruction of images.

Some scholars are of the view that photographic imaging falls under this prohibition because it is a type of imaging that involves imitating Allah’s creation, leads to extremism in venerating images, resembles the polytheists, prevents the entry of angels, and is considered a waste of money. Therefore, photographic imaging of living beings is prohibited except in cases of extreme necessity, such as for passports.

After repenting from photography, the forbidden images must be destroyed, as this is a removal of evil, just as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did with the curtain bearing images in Aisha's house.
