Will not a man have in Paradise whatever he desires, so why do we supplicate God to build us houses there?

Whoever asks Allah to build him a house in Paradise, and Allah answers his prayer, will enter Paradise, because he cannot have a house therein except by entering it. The purpose of building a house for him is to accommodate him in it.
