Is a man rewarded for obeying his maternal aunt, and is he not sinful if he disobeys her in a permissible matter, provided he treats her with respect?

The hadiths indicate that the maternal aunt is like a mother in tenderness and compassion, and she is given precedence over others in custody (of a child), and that showing her kindness is among the causes for expiation of sins. Showing kindness to the maternal aunt means maintaining ties with her, treating her with goodness, and honoring her, not the obligation to obey her, for obedience is due only to parents.
