The scholars are unanimous on the obligation of stoning for the married fornicator, whether male or female. None have differed on this matter except the Khawarij. Stoning has been authentically reported from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, both through his sayings and actions, and the Companions have agreed upon it. Indeed, Allah Almighty revealed the verse of stoning, but its recitation was abrogated while its ruling remained, as narrated by Umar ibn Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him. Stoning is a right upon whoever commits fornication, if they are married and proof is established against them, or they confess.
