What is the ruling on eating a rabbit whose head was severed from its body with a stick?

The rabbit hunted and killed with a stick is not permissible to eat, because a stick is not considered a lawful hunting tool. Hunting must be done with a specific tool that causes blood to gush forth. This is supported by the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) saying regarding hunting with a blunt arrow (mi'radh): "If you strike with its sharp edge, then eat. But if you strike with its blunt side and it kills, then it is a mauled animal (waqidh), so do not eat it." What is killed by its weight is not permissible unless it is slaughtered according to Islamic rites (tadhkiyah).
