How should one associate with disbelieving or immoral parents and a Kitābī wife? And can things be excused for them that would not be excused for others, such as obeying one’s mother in installing satellite channels that contain songs and TV series, as part of good companionship, with the exception of aiding in sin that transgresses against others?

The right of parents to kindness and dutifulness remains, even if they are disbelievers or transgressors. Similarly, a wife has the right to be treated with kindness. Disbelievers are addressed by the branches of Islamic law. It is not permissible for a Muslim to assist his disbelieving parents or his Christian or Jewish wife in anything forbidden in religion, for that entails cooperation in sin and aggression, which is prohibited by His, the Almighty's, saying: "And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression."
