Where does the soul go when one sleeps?

Ibn Qutaybah and Al-Manawi mentioned that the soul is ascended to the Throne during sleep, and that it is commanded to prostrate. So, whoever sleeps in a state of purity prostrates before the Throne, and whoever is in a state of ritual impurity (junub) or not pure prostrates far from it. There is nothing definitively established about this from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him; rather, it was narrated as a statement attributed to Abdullah ibn Amr (mawquf).
