Where do the good and the wicked souls go upon death and during sleep?

Fatwas have been issued previously regarding the abode of souls after death and during sleep. The book "Ar-Ruh" (The Soul) by Imam Ibn al-Qayyim is recommended, specifically the chapter titled "Where Do Souls Reside Between Death and the Day of Judgment?" The narrations from the Companions indicate consistently that the soul of a believer prostrates before the Throne both upon falling asleep and upon death.
