Is it permissible to supplicate by reading supplications from a book without raising one's hands?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Raising the hands during supplication (du'a) is a Sunnah and one of the reasons for its acceptance, but it is not obligatory, nor is it a requirement. If you need to read from a book and it is difficult for you to raise your hands, then supplicate without raising them, and there is no sin in that. If you can combine both, that is preferable. A person may supplicate with any du'a, even one that is not from the transmitted (ma'thur) supplications.
