What is the ruling on placing a book or a mobile phone while raising one's hands for supplication in order to read invocations?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Whoever wishes to supplicate should put down whatever they hold in their hands to be able to raise and extend them, because raising the hands during supplication is a recommended Sunnah and one of the reasons for its acceptance. It has been reported in the Hadith: "Indeed, Allah is Modest and Generous; He is too shy to send back empty and disappointed the hands of a man who raises them to Him." It was mentioned in another Hadith that extending the hands towards the sky is among the etiquettes of supplication, but his supplication will be answered only if his food, drink, and clothing are lawful.
