Is the value of the remaining gold for Zakat calculated based on the price of gold at the time the Hawl (Zakat year) is completed, or on its current price when Zakat is disbursed?
Zakat on gold is due on the gold itself. So, if you possess one hundred grams of gold, its zakat is two and a half grams of gold. It is permissible to pay cash instead of the obligatory amount for zakat on gold and silver, as both are considered mediums of exchange, provided that the amount paid is equivalent to the value of what is due on the day of payment. If the payment of a portion of the zakat is delayed, then one-fourth of one-tenth of the delayed amount must be paid in gold or its equivalent value on the day of payment.
