What is the ruling on gathering in mosques after Maghrib to recite Surat Yasin in congregation every Friday night, given its special status among the Malay people?

Reciting the Quran collectively is not from the practice of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) nor his Companions, and it is a reprehensible innovation (bid'ah mardudah), based on his (peace be upon him) saying: "Whoever introduces into this affair of ours that which does not belong to it, it is to be rejected." Moreover, the narrations concerning the virtues of Surat Ya-Sin are weak or fabricated.
