Is a person considered a severer of ties of kinship if their communication with relatives who mistreat them, backbite, and gossip is limited to visiting them on occasions such as condolences and illness, after having advised them and been shunned by them?

It is recommended to be patient and to convey goodness to abusive relatives through advice, gifts, visiting the sick, and offering condolences to those afflicted, even if it is by phone. Avoid their gatherings where there are Sharia violations. Do not return evil with evil. Maintaining kinship ties (silat al-rahim) refers to custom; what people customarily consider as maintaining ties is so, and what they customarily consider as severing ties is so. If limiting kinship ties to occasions, congratulating them on new blessings, visiting their sick, and offering condolences to their afflicted is considered maintaining ties according to custom, then it is not considered severing kinship ties.
