Is it better for a man who wants to marry a second wife—in order to follow the Sunnah, increase progeny, and alleviate spinsterhood—to marry, or to donate money to help another young man marry?

Allah has permitted a man to marry up to four women, provided he is capable of fulfilling the responsibilities of marriage. However, even fulfilling the rights of one wife can be difficult. Therefore, a man is not permitted to marry a second wife if he believes he will neglect the rights of his first wife or children, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There shall be no harm nor reciprocating harm." As for someone who is certain that he will not neglect their rights, there is no impediment for him. Indeed, marrying more than one wife may be obligatory for one who fears falling into sin. It is better for one whose life is stable and whose wife suffices him to donate money to those in need of marriage, for that brings reward and helps reduce spinsterhood/bachelorhood. A wife must also realize that her husband may marry another woman due to faults in her, even if he does not inform her of them. In such a case, she cannot prevent him, because the husband's preservation of his religion takes precedence.
