To what extent is the hadith authentic: "A severe tribulation from their ruler will descend upon my Ummah at the end of time..."?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The hadith narrated by Al-Hakim from Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri regarding the tribulations of the Ummah at the end of time and the appearance of the Mahdi, has an obscure and unestablished chain of narration, and it has been weakened by Al-Albani. Some parts of the hadith have been reported through other channels; thus, its beginning is weak. The emergence of the Mahdi, who will fill the earth with equity and justice, is established by authentic hadiths. The part about the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth being pleased with him was reported with a weak chain of narration. As for the earth not withholding its seeds and the sky not withholding its rain, and the Mahdi living for seven, eight, or nine years, there is an authentic corroborating narration for this. The author did not find a corroborating narration for the statement: "The living will wish they were dead because of the good that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, bestowed upon the people of the earth."
