The question

Is the waiting period (iddah) of divorce that I spent invalidated by my three-day recreational trip, and do I owe expiation or must I repeat the waiting period, given that I travel for work to Qatar?

The answer

A divorced woman is not permitted to leave the home of her iddah (waiting period) except for a need or an excuse, because Allah Almighty said: "Do not expel them from their homes, nor should they leave, unless they commit a clear immorality." Leaving for recreation is not an excuse, and she would be sinful by doing so unless she is harmed. The expiation for leaving is repentance, and she is not required to restart the iddah. Likewise, she is not permitted to travel during the iddah except out of a necessity that cannot be delayed.
