Is it permissible for a woman who has been divorced once to go on outings and attend family events during her 'iddah, or is her ruling like that of a woman whose husband has died, that she may not leave except out of necessity?

The waiting period ('iddah) for a divorced woman is three months if she is young or elderly and past menstruation. It is three menstrual cycles if she is still menstruating. The waiting period for a pregnant woman ends upon delivery. A woman who has been revocably divorced (talaq raj'i) must remain in her husband's home, and it is not permissible to expel her from it until her waiting period concludes, as Allah Almighty says: "O Prophet, when you divorce women, divorce them for [the commencement of] their waiting period and keep count of the waiting period, and fear Allah, your Lord. Do not expel them from their houses, nor should they leave, unless they commit a clear immorality." The divorced woman is not required to abstain from what a woman whose husband has died must abstain from. However, it is not permissible for her to spend the night outside her home except out of necessity, nor to go out during the day except for a need.
