Did the Ansar offer the Muhajireen to divorce their wives so that the Muhajireen could marry them, and is this considered altruism or degradation of women?

Sa'd ibn al-Rabee's offer to Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf did not involve demeaning women by giving up one of his wives. The proposal was for Sa'd to divorce his wife, and then Abd al-Rahman would marry her after her 'iddah (waiting period) expired and she consented, because Islamic law requires the consent of a mature, previously married woman. This is further confirmed by various narrations mentioned by Ibn Hajar, which state that Sa'd offered Abd al-Rahman to choose one of his wives for him to divorce, and when she became permissible, he could marry her. It is highly probable that the woman would have consented to Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf as a husband, because he was a noble Companion known for forsaking his homeland and wealth for the sake of his religion, of noble lineage among Quraysh, and a skilled merchant, all qualities desired by women.
