The answer

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded seeking treatment with "what Allah has created of illness and medicine," while avoiding unlawful things. Medicines are divided into two types: medicines approved by the Shari'ah, such as the Quran and honey, and medicines approved by science and experience. It is not permissible to seek treatment with that which has not been proven beneficial, neither by Shari'ah nor by science, such as incense and alum; because that is a type of deception, sorcery, and seeking help from jinn. Therefore, repentance is due for what has occurred, and one should seek treatment through legitimate or scientific means, while advising those who engage in such practices.
