It is permissible to be named "Karim" and by any name shared between Allah and His servants, such as: Ali, Rashid, Badi', Rahim. However, it is forbidden to be named with names exclusive to Allah Almighty, such as "Al-Khaliq" (The Creator) and "Ar-Rahman" (The Most Merciful). It is preferable and recommended to add "Abd" (servant of) before the name, such as "Abd al-Karim," due to the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Indeed, the most beloved of your names to Allah are: Abdullah and Abdur-Rahman."
