In a congregation that has no Imam, who has more right to lead the prayer: the memorizer of the Qur’an who does not perfect its recitation and understanding, or the one who has memorized little but perfects its recitation and tajwid?

The one most worthy of leading the prayer is the one who has memorized the most of the Qur’an among the congregation. However, if he does not recite well and distorts Al-Fatiha in a way that alters its meaning, then prayer behind him is not valid. But if he recites Al-Fatiha without distortion, his prayer is valid. Nevertheless, someone who recites well is preferred over him, because one who does not recite well will inevitably make errors, even if subtle.
