Is it true that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was financially supported by his wife Khadijah, may Allah be pleased with her? What is the ruling on a father remaining at home without work, relying on his working wife? Is it permissible for the questioner to speak with her mother about this matter?

The husband must spend on his wife and children, even if the wife is wealthy, as Allah Almighty says: {Let a man of wealth spend from his wealth}, and as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And for them (the wives) is their sustenance and clothing according to what is reasonable." The original ruling is that maintenance is obligatory upon the father, and he must earn to fulfill it. However, if the wife voluntarily undertakes to spend on the husband and children with her consent, then there is no blame on the husband, as Allah Almighty says: {But if they, of their own accord, give up to you anything of it, then take it and enjoy it with good cheer, pleasant and wholesome}. As for the daughter inciting her mother to stop spending on her father, this is an attempt to sow discord and corruption, and it is a form of disobedience to parents.
