What is the ruling on a woman performing the Adhan (call to prayer) for men?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The practice of Muslims for fourteen centuries has been that the Adhan is specific to men, and to contravene this is to deviate from the path of the believers. This is evidenced by the Sunnah, where the noble Companions agreed that only men should call to prayer. When Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, was consulted, he said: "Will you not send a man to call to prayer?"

Further confirmation of this is the prohibition of a woman from alerting the Imam by speech if he errs; rather, she should clap, so that she does not raise her voice in the presence of men. How then could she give the Adhan? Scholars have unanimously agreed on the impermissibility of a woman giving the Adhan for men.
