The meaning of the question about "dating" (muwa'adah) is not clear. However, jurists mention it in the context of proposing to a woman in her waiting period ('iddah), where it is forbidden to explicitly propose to her or to promise to marry her, whether her 'iddah is due to divorce, death,, annulment, or intercourse under a misconception. "Muwa'adah" is also mentioned in some contracts, such as the istisna' (manufacturing) contract. Some consider it a promise, while others view it as a sale in which the buyer has the option to revoke.
