It is forbidden for a wife to seek a divorce without a legitimate Sharia (definition)-compliant excuse, and whoever does so will be deprived of the scent of Paradise. If the house is jointly owned by the spouses, the wife has the right to utilize her share. However, after an irrevocable divorce (طلاق بائن), it is not permissible for the spouses to remain in the same house unless they are in a completely separate room with its own facilities, or if there is a mahram (definition) present to prevent khalwa (definition) (private seclusion). In the case of a revocable divorce (طلاق رجعي), they may remain in the same room, and khalwa between them is permissible before the expiry of the iddah (definition) (waiting period). The wife has the right to remain in the house, and the husband is responsible for her maintenance and the maintenance of the children until the males reach the age of discretion and the females marry. Neither the mother's work nor her responsibility for the divorce nullifies this right. The amount of maintenance for the wife and children is determined by the Sharia court.
