This is because lowering the gaze is obligatory when it comes to forbidden things and anything that might lead to temptation. Speaking to a young foreign woman is impermissible without need, due to the temptation that can result from it.

You must be patient with him and help him repent from these forbidden acts. Explain the ruling of the Sharia (definition) to him, urge him to associate with righteous people and listen to admonitions. Be diligent in being a good and beautiful wife to him, while striving in supplicating for him.
