Did the scholars in the era of Imam Ahmad unanimously agree to avoid the evil of the Caliph despite his call to disbelief? And was Imam Ahmad an outlier to this consensus? And did anyone transmit this consensus? And how could it be a consensus when more than one person deviated from it, such as Nu'aym ibn Hammad, Affan ibn Muslim, and Ahmad ibn Nasr al-Khuza'i? And can the Ummah unite upon error? And did those mentioned reach the rank of Ijtihad and were they contemporaries of Imam Ahmad? And how can one know who reached the rank of Ijtihad?
The Quran is the Word of Allah and is not created. The saying that it is created is an innovation of the Jahmiyyah. As for the stance of Imam Ahmad and those who agreed with him in rejecting the saying that the Quran is created, it is out of taking the عزيمة (firm resolution) and enduring adversity, and this is better. Whereas taking the رخصة (dispensation) and uttering a word of disbelief under duress, with the heart remaining tranquil in faith, is permissible شرعًا (Islamically) and there is no blame in it.
