Is it permissible to give zakat to a sick brother who spends on his treatment and children, and who owns agricultural land whose income is spent on it? And to what extent is this permissible? And is it permissible to give zakat to a maternal aunt who spends on treatment, while her husband's pension and her son's salary are insufficient for their needs?

It was previously stated that the maintenance of relatives other than parents and children is not obligatory. Therefore, there is no objection for the questioner to give his Zakat to his poor brother whose wealth is insufficient for him, even if he owns agricultural land whose income is insufficient.

Whoever possesses wealth that does not suffice him is not considered rich, even if its value is great. And if he owns real estate whose income is less than what suffices him, then he is poor or needy and should be given from Zakat what completes his needs, and he is not obligated to sell it.

Accordingly, the questioner can give from his Zakat to his brother what completes his needs and the needs of his dependents, without restriction. The same applies to the maternal aunt and her family as long as the income of the breadwinner is insufficient for them.
