Is it permissible to work on the day of the Hijri New Year, and why was it named "Fatih Muharram"?

It is permissible to work on the Hijri New Year's Day, just like any other day, as this day is not considered an Eid for Muslims. Allah replaced the celebrations of the Days of Ignorance for Muslims with the two Eids of Adha and Fitr. The righteous predecessors did not celebrate this day, and had there been any good in it, they would have preceded us to it. The encouragement was only for fasting the Day of Ashura (the tenth of Muharram), as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, fasted it and commanded its fasting, because it was the day Allah saved the Children of Israel from their enemy. The first day of the New Year was named "Fatih al-Muharram" because it inaugurated the month.
