The basic principle is the obligation to perform each prayer at its appointed time. Combining two prayers is permissible only when there are legitimate شرعية excuses, such as travel, illness, or to alleviate hardship and difficulty. However, being preoccupied with adornment (getting ready) or receiving guests is not an excuse for combining prayers. The hardship can be alleviated by performing the adornment earlier or later, or by doing it minimally, or by performing a nominal combination (جمع صوري). Women are advised not to be excessive in their adornment.
