Is an oath uttered under extreme anger and obsessive thoughts, saying, "If he doesn't shut up, I'll go to my grandfather," considered a vain oath (yamin laghw) or does it necessitate expiation?

The son must repent to Allah for his ill-treatment of his father, because the son is obligated to be respectful in his address to his father, as Allah Almighty says: "So do not say to them, 'Uff,' and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word."

If the oath was intentional, it is not considered a vain oath. If the condition upon which the oath was made occurs, then a single expiation is due. Anger does not prevent the oath from taking effect as long as the swearer's mind comprehends what he is saying. Similarly, obsessive thoughts do not prevent the oath from taking effect if the oath was made with intent and will.
