Is it permissible to sponsor an orphan while fearing the inability to continue providing for him due to possible future circumstances?

The upright Sharia has urged the sponsorship of orphans and has promised great rewards for it, in confirmation of the Almighty's saying: "They ask you what they should spend. Say: Whatever good you spend is for parents and relatives and orphans and the needy and the wayfarer. And whatever good you do, Allah is knowing of it," and His saying: "And worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him, and be good to parents and relatives and orphans and the needy."

It is stated in the noble Hadith that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "I and the guardian of the orphan are in Paradise like this," and he pointed with his index and middle fingers. Moreover, honoring an orphan softens the heart. So, whoever has the means should hasten to do good. If one sponsors an orphan and then a legitimate reason arises that terminates this sponsorship, there is no blame on him for that, and he will be rewarded for what he has offered.
