The answer

People are divided into four categories:

1. Believer outwardly and inwardly: This is the true believer. 2. Disbeliever outwardly and inwardly: This is the original disbeliever. 3. Believer outwardly, disbeliever inwardly: This is the hypocrite. 4. Disbeliever outwardly, believer inwardly: These are those who conceal their faith out of fear, such as the believer from Pharaoh's family and the Negus.

The fundamental division of people inwardly is either believer or disbeliever. Their outward manifestation then varies. A believer may show his faith or conceal it due to an impediment, and a disbeliever may show his disbelief or conceal it, thus becoming a hypocrite.

The category of believers includes everyone who possesses the essence of faith, whether complete or deficient. The category of disbelievers includes all their types, from the People of the Book and others.
