What is this feeling that overtakes me—of ecstasy, passion, and preoccupation with absentmindedness in prayer—in order that I might be an Imam? And what is the remedy for that?

A Muslim should love to be at the forefront and pray in the first rows, and feel saddened by falling behind. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Come forward and follow me, and let those who come after you follow you. A people will continue to lag behind until Allah puts them back." One must also address the love of prominence and showing off, for Allah alone beautifies praise and demeans dispraise. The one who is truly advanced is he who is advanced in the sight of Allah through righteous deeds. A person's high status in this world is of no benefit if they are lowly in the sight of Allah. Therefore, the focus should be on pleasing Allah alone and doing what brings one closer to Him.
