Was the hadd punishment carried out on Hassan ibn Thabit, may Allah be pleased with him, for slandering the Mother of the Believers, Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, and how could that be when he is a noble Companion?

Hassan ibn Thabit, may Allah be pleased with him, was a Companion and the poet of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. The Group (of Hadith scholars) narrated from him, and many hadiths were reported regarding his virtues, among them 'Aishah's, may Allah be pleased with her, prohibition of reviling him, and her affirmation that he defended the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

Hassan participated in the incident of the Ifk (slander), as narrated by 'Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her. A group of those who engaged in it repented, and Hassan apologized for it with a poem in which he praised 'Aishah and denied what was said about her. We emphasize that whoever accuses 'Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her, after the Qur'an has absolved her, is disbelieving the Qur'an and thus commits an act of disbelief.
