Is it permissible for a father who owns residential floors and shops, and is able to furnish them, to ask his daughters for financial participation in furnishing apartments for them so that they can each have an apartment like the sons, knowing that one of them is well-off and the other has a limited income, and this might cause jealousy among them?

The most preponderant opinion among scholars is that equality in giving gifts to children is obligatory, based on the Prophet's (PBUH) saying: "Fear Allah and be just among your children." The majority of scholars hold that equality is achieved by giving the male the same as the female, not like inheritance, as it was narrated that the Prophet (PBUH) said: "Be equal among your children in giving gifts. If I were to prefer anyone, I would have preferred women." What the father intends to do by gifting his daughters apartments equal to those of his sons, so that males and females are equal, is not forbidden; rather, it is precisely the correct thing to do. The fact that the sisters are wealthier does not mean they should be deprived of their right. It is important to remember the Prophet's (PBUH) saying: "Look at those who are beneath you, and do not look at those who are above you, for that is more apt to make you not belittle the favor of Allah upon you."
