What is a brief overview of Sufyan al-Thawri's life and his courage with rulers?

Sufyan al-Thawri is the Imam, the Commander of the Faithful in Hadith. He was born in the year 97 AH and sought knowledge from a young age. The number of his shaykhs reached six hundred. Many praised him, considering him the scholar and worshipper of the Ummah. He enjoined good and forbade evil, and he opposed injustice and its perpetrators, which led him to live in hiding from rulers. He entered upon Al-Mahdi and greeted him with a common salutation, then criticized his excessive spending on Hajj. He then left and fled, refusing to be a judge for Kufa and escaping.
