What is arrogance, and what is the difference between it and narcissism, haughtiness, and conceit? Is belittling, mocking, and laughing at people considered arrogance? How can one be arrogant towards the arrogant? And is one sinful for disliking these arrogant people?

Narcissism, arrogance, and vanity all relate in meaning to pride, which the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, defined as: "rejecting the truth and despising people." Narcissism is a feeling of self-importance and self-love, while arrogance is pride coupled with harming others, and vanity is pride that manifests in a person's appearance and walk. As for mocking and ridiculing others, it is considered a form of pride. And a Muslim's dislike for the arrogant is permissible, but only to the extent of their arrogance, without exaggeration.
