How can one deal with a 24-year-old wife who displays signs of extreme jealousy, selfishness, disrespect toward her husband's family, distance from religion, and the use of foul language, especially given the presence of a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, and after attempts at solutions such as abandonment, separation, and religious and psychological counseling have proven futile?
Homes are not built entirely on love, but on understanding. The husband should overlook his wife's mistakes and remember the Prophet's (peace be upon him) advice concerning women: "No believing man should hate a believing woman; if he dislikes one of her characteristics, he will be pleased with another." The husband should not seek out his wife's faults, but rather discipline and guide her with wisdom. As for the wife, she must fear Allah concerning her husband, for obedience to him is a great right upon her after the right of Allah. Two matters must be addressed: First, the wife abandoning prayer, which is a grave sin, and some scholars consider abandoning it out of negligence and laziness to be an act of disbelief. Second, the husband uttering the divorce three times. In this case, the matter must be referred to Sharia courts to determine the ruling on the divorce of an angry person, and the husband must not approach his wife until the judge's ruling is issued.
