What are the times when prayer is disliked, and is it permissible to pray in the last third of the night after the Shaf' and Witr prayers?

The last third of the night is not a time when supererogatory prayers are forbidden; rather, prayer during it holds great merit. A Muslim should strive to spend a portion of it in seeking forgiveness and supplication. If a Muslim is confident of waking up at this time, then he should delay the Witr prayer until then, so it becomes the last prayer of the night. Otherwise, he should pray it before sleeping and not repeat it if he wakes up to pray afterward.
