Does despairing of one's own righteousness accord with or contradict despairing of God's mercy?

Despairing of one's own rectification can lead to despairing of Allah's mercy. Allah forgives all sins, no matter how great. Therefore, a servant should not despair of rectifying his condition, but should continue in acts of obedience and repentance. He should also strive to address the causes that lead him to sin, such as bad company or environment. Leaving the soul prey to neglect without accountability leads to perdition.
