The answer

There is no better cure for waswas (whispering of evil suggestions) than to ignore it. Waswas does not harm its owner as long as he dislikes it, nor does it expel him from the religion. Rather, he is rewarded for his dislike of it, for this is a clear sign of faith.

Allah has removed from the Ummah (Muslim nation) the burden of error, forgetfulness, and that which they are compelled to do. The questioner should take it easy on herself; she is not an infidel but a Muslim who dislikes the whispering of Satan. She should know that all the thoughts that come to her mind that are unfitting for Allah Almighty are not held against her as long as she dislikes them, because they are beyond her control.

Therefore, it is necessary to completely ignore all such waswas.

It is recommended to seek refuge in Allah Almighty, to seek His protection from Satan, to consistently recite the Mu'awwidhatayn (Surahs Al-Falaq and An-Nas) and the morning and evening adhkar (remembrances), and not to succumb to anything that diminishes the status of religion.

Ibn Hajar Al-Haytami said concerning the cure for waswas: "It has an effective remedy, which is to completely ignore them… Even if there is hesitation in one’s soul, if one does not pay attention to it, it will not persist but will disappear after a short time, as those who were successful have experienced. As for those who listen to it and act upon its dictates, it will only increase until it drives them to the realm of the insane, or even worse."

It is not permissible to interrupt prayer due to waswas. The best way to repel Satan during prayer is to seek refuge in Allah and to spit lightly to the left three times.

It is also advisable to consult specialists in the treatment of mental illnesses. There is no objection to presenting oneself to those who are trustworthy in their religiosity and piety from among those knowledgeable in Shar'iyyah (Islamic exorcism), while being wary of charlatans and impostors.
