Is it permissible for a pilgrim (Hajj or Umrah) suffering from varicose veins to wear special socks during the performance of the rituals?

If a pilgrim [in the state of ihram] wears socks or similar items for medical treatment, or due to heat or cold, it is permissible, but a fidyah (expiation) becomes obligatory upon him. However, wrapping a cloth around the foot or leg due to illness or fear of harm does not necessitate a fidyah, unless it is on the head, in which case a fidyah becomes obligatory. This ruling is specific to men; as for women, it is permissible for them to cover their legs with socks or other coverings unconditionally.
