Is it permissible to read a book, including the Holy Qur’an, in the restroom?

The remembrance of Allah must be protected from places of impurity and filth, in accordance with the Almighty's saying: "That [is so]. And whoever honors the symbols of Allah - indeed, it is from the piety of hearts." and "That [is so]. And whoever honors the sacred rites of Allah - it is better for him in the sight of his Lord." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to remove his ring (inscribed with "Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah") when entering the lavatory, and he would say, "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from evil and evil deeds," upon entering, and "Your forgiveness," upon exiting.

It is disliked to enter the lavatory with anything that contains the remembrance of Allah without need, and it is disliked to speak therein except out of necessity. As for reading books and newspapers inside, it should not be done due to their containing the remembrance of Allah, and reading the Quran therein is absolutely forbidden. Sound human nature rejects reading the Quran in places of impurity and harm.
