Who are those who have earned wrath and those who are astray, and what is the difference between them in reckoning?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Those who have earned wrath are the Jews, and those who are astray are the Christians. There is no disagreement in their interpretation as such. This is indicated by Allah's saying concerning the Jews: "So they drew upon themselves wrath upon wrath," and His saying concerning the Christians: "They had already gone astray before and led many astray." Imam Ahmad narrated from Adi bin Hatim that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, those who have earned wrath are the Jews, and indeed, those who are astray are the Christians." The Jews are in a worse state than the Christians; they are more severe in disbelief, stubbornness, and malice. They disbelieved in two prophets (Muhammad and Jesus), while the Christians disbelieved in one prophet (Muhammad). The Jews became corrupt after knowledge, while the Christians became corrupt out of ignorance.
