What is the ruling on naming animals with names attributed to Allah, or the Prophets, or the Companions, and the like?

There is no objection to naming animals with names by which they are known. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had names for his camels, horses, and donkey. However, it is not permissible to name an animal after a prophet or a Companion, due to the disrespect involved, which could even reach the point of disbelief if that is the intention. Likewise, it is not permissible to name it with a name attributed to Allah, such as "Lion of Allah," because it is a statement about Allah without knowledge, except for what is explicitly mentioned in the texts, like "the She-camel of Allah." Nor is it permissible to name it with a name attributed to Allah, like "Abdullah," due to the degradation of the noble name it entails.
