Is it permissible to name animals?

There is no harm in naming animals with appropriate names. It has been reported that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, named his she-camel "al-Aḍbāʾ," and his horses "al-Mandūb" and "al-Ḥalīf," and his donkey "ʿUfair." Similarly, the Companions named their animals, such as Abū al-Dardāʾ's camel "Dumūn" and Abū Qatādah's horse "al-Jarādah." This indicates the permissibility of giving animals specific names that distinguish them from their species.
