The answer

The wife is entitled to maintenance during the husband's absence if the delay is caused by him and the wife is ready for consummation, because she is entitled to maintenance through her readiness. However, if the delay or refusal is from the wife or her family, then maintenance is not obligatory for the husband. Likewise, there is no maintenance if the delay is by mutual agreement between them. If the delay is customary, such as the period for preparing the trousseau, then there is no customary maintenance during this period; however, if it exceeds one year, then maintenance becomes obligatory.
