Whoever performs Salāt al-Istikhārah (the prayer for guidance) and then encounters deterrents and difficulties in the matter for which guidance was sought, this indicates that the best course of action is to turn away from it, and that Allah has chosen for it not to be. His turning away from it does not mean that he is displeased with Allah's decree. This is the correct understanding of Istikhārah, contrary to what some people assume about the necessity of seeing a dream. Therefore, if another opportunity for study opens up for you, you should seek Allah's guidance (perform Istikhārah) regarding entering the Faculty of Medicine, and proceed with that after consulting those with experience. If the circumstances are made easy for you, then the best course of action for you is to enter it.
