If the suitor has no fault other than listening to anashid (Islamic vocal songs), then accept him. Listening to anashid is not a defect in him, unless they contain something forbidden, like a wind instrument. As for the duff (tambourine), it is permissible for both men and women to listen to and play it, based on the hadith (definition): "The distinction between lawful and unlawful is the sound and the striking of the duff," and the hadith about the black slave girl who vowed to play the duff and sing if Allah returned His Messenger safely, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, permitted her to do so. The Maliki, Shafi'i, and Hanbali schools of thought have all affirmed the permissibility of playing the duff for both men and women. The Hanafis, however, disagreed, deeming it prohibitively disliked (karaha tahrimiyya) for men, due to resemblance to women.
